<b>Gaston Louis Alfred Leroux</b> (6 May 1868�15 April 1927) was a French journalist who also wrote detective fiction. In the English-speaking world, he is best known for his novel <i>The Phantom of the Opera</i> (French: Le Fant�me de l�Op�ra, 1910). It has been made into several films and stage productions under the same name. His 1907 novel <i>The Mystery of the Yellow Room</i> is one of the most celebrated locked-room mysteries. Leroux was made a Chevalier de la Legion d�honneur in 1909.
