The Naulahka, a remarkable work of fiction by Rudyard Kipling and Wolcott Balestier, came under severe criticism by a section of the society for its alleged anti feminist contents when it was first published in 1892. Kipling married Balestier's sister in the same year.

About the Author
Born in Bombay in 1865, Rudyard Kipling went to England to finish his studies and came back and lived in India for several years. He wrote a number of poems and tales, establishing himself as a writer of repute. In 1907 he became the first ever English writer to win the Nobel prize for literature.
