Rabindranath Tagore is one of India�s most cherished Renaissance figures�a poet, short-story writer, novelist, dramatist, essayist, painter and composer. One of the foremost minds of his time, he was a social, political and religious thinker, an innovator in education and a champion of the �One World� idea. He was the first Indian to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature for his beautiful verses Gitanjali in 1913. He has also been instrumental in shaping modern Indian literature.
