About the Author

Shivanand Kanavi is the vice-president of special projects in Tata Consultancy Services. His interests include physics, technology, philosophy, history, political economy, Indian classical music and empowerment. He is a theoretical physicist from IIT, Kanpur and North-eastern University, Boston and has carried out research at IIT, Bombay. He has researched super symmetry, quantum gravity and particle physical journals. After a successful career in teaching and academics, he turned to consulting and business journalism. The former executive editor of Business India, he has extensively covered a wide-ranging issues in business and technology. He was awarded the Madhu Valluri Award in 2003 for his contribution to IT journalism. He is also the author of the highly acclaimed Sand to Silicon: The Amazing Story of Digital Technology.
