Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay (1876-1938) was a novelist and short story writer from Bengal, one of the leading writers of the Bengal Renaissance. Pather Dabi, one of his greatest and most controversial works, was banned by the British during his lifetime. Prasenjit Mukherjee was born in 1957 and did his master's degree in English literature from Utkal University. He was a lecturer in Berhampur University before joining the Indian Audit and Accounts Service. He has also translated another of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's works, the popular Palli Samaj.
