About the Author

D. Mehra (1910-1997) came from a middle-class background and began his career by selling handkerchiefs in Calcutta's post New Market. He had barely settled in the business when he was approached by K. Jackson Marshall of William Collins & Sons who had observed and been highly impressed by the former's selling techniques. Marshall offered him a job in the book trade and so began a career that was to be known to everyone today as the dynamic and distinguished Rupa & Co.This compilation of quotations by D.
