About the Author

<b>Meghnad Desai</b> is an Emeritus Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics where he taught for 40 years. He has written extensively on Indian history and politics, and among his books are <i>Divided by Democracy: Why is India a Democracy and Pakistan is not a Democracy</i> (2005, jointly with Aitzaz Ahsan), <i>The Rediscovery of India</i> (2009), and <i>The Raisina Model: Indian Democracy at 70</i> (2017). His other titles include <i>Politicshock: Trump, Modi, Brexit and the Prospect for Liberal Democracy</i> (2017), <i>Anamika: A Tale of Desire in a Time of War</i> (2020), and <i>Mayabharata: The Untold Story behind the Death of Lord Krishna</i> (2022). He was made Lord Desai of St Clement Danes in 1991, and awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Puraskar in 2004 and the Padma Bhushan in 2008.
